This course builds on the training blocks established
in the basic ‘Media Awareness and Telephone Training
course’. Participants are introduced to media practices
and approaches to shipping and asked to respond to media
calls and intrusion. Where the basic course teaches participants
to take calls and pass them to a company spokesperson or
an established “information centre”, the ‘Advanced
course’ starts the process of media engagement and
in dealing with questions in a proactive way.
The course develops the concept of the “20 key question
areas” that are of interest to the media and looks
at ways of dealing with perception and reality in relation
to these subjects. Setting the media agenda and the important
technique of “bridging” are covered. Participants
are able to practice both on the telephone and on camera.
An introduction is also made to the ‘Down the Line’ television
interview and ‘Press Conference.’
A realistic scenario is used in order to simulate many of the pressures of a real incident.
This course enables successful participants to move onto
the ‘Advanced Television Training Course’ and
fulfill the role of Company Spokesperson.
